Damage Prevention Response to Hurricane Laura

CenterPoint Energy’s response to storm restoration activities immediately following Hurricane Laura in the South Louisiana footprint.  Activities including proactive sweeps to protect underground facilities, utilizing internal and contract resources to locate and protect facilities and completing all of these activities during a time of no power, limited cell service and catastrophic property damage.

Immediately following a Category 4 Hurricane making landfall directly in line with the CenterPoint Energy South Louisiana footprint, the Damage Prevention and Operations teams at CenterPoint Energy began their Emergency Operations Plan and worked through multiple issues to work through a combined preventative sweep using internal and contract resources to protect natural gas and other underground utilities.  Through proactive sweeps, utilization of Engineering maps and tracking methodologies, CenterPoint Energy was able to mitigate and minimize the potential impact of over 13,000 mutual aid personnel replacing over 10,000 power poles in the Southwest Louisiana area in a time period of less than 5 weeks.
