Damage Prevention: The Big Picture
The presentation is intended to be an introduction to all facets of Damage Prevention. All CGA Stakeholders are expert in their particular field, but few really know all the different components of safe digging. This presentation is intended to provide the attendee with an understanding of project planning, record drawings, Subsurface Utility Engineering, Investigative methods and tools, operator issues and concerns, locator perspectives, one-call center role and challenges, white-lining, ticket components, response issues, field communications between excavators and operators, excavator issues, pothole methods and documentation, record keeping, regulators role, and summary of working together (Common Ground). Also, the presentation will address what are the misconceptions of the industry and what improvements are underway.
All Common Ground Alliance stake holders have expertise in their safe excavating roles, but few understand the “Big Picture” of all the roles of all the Stakeholder groups. Excavators know the field work of digging. Operators know the transmission of products, gasses, power, information, water, and waste. Locators know how to identify the physical locatin of underground systems, One Call centers know how to receive and disseminate information on excavation projects. Regulatory agencies oversee the protection of the public. Engineers, planners, surveyors research and document facilities. And, many others play important roles in preventing damages to our vital underground systems.
While all know something about damage prevention, we all can learn and perform our functions better with knowledge and better understanding of all the facets of the Damage Prevention community. This presentation proves the attendee with information to understand and interact better with all stakeholders.
