Hitting the Road with Damage Prevention Education
Uneducated third-party contractors, improper excavating techniques, projects falling behind on schedule – these are all common problems that utilities regularly face today. Southern Cross has created a solution that focuses on utilizing a Damage Prevention Inspector to educate and identify incorrect excavating techniques and ultimately save the utility from costly damages. The Damage Prevention Vehicle comes with an individual who is highly trained in correct excavation laws and practices – our Damage Prevention Inspector (DPI). The Inspector’s job is to engage with third party excavators to positively influence their practices and prevent damages to the utility. The Inspector will identify at-risk behavior or any excavation taking place with no visible locate marks, and the Inspector will confirm project specifics such as start dates and area coverage. Southern Cross provides a DPI Dashboard to the utility that shows customizable statistics such as risk score, % within tolerance zone, % crossing gas utility, reasons for stopped excavation, contractors that are not compliant, and much more!
